The Fundación Enrique E. Cofiner was constituted in Barcelona on 15 July 2021 and is registered with the Foundations Registry of the Government of Catalonia (no. 3245). It is a private, non-profit cultural foundation governed by Spain’s Foundations Act (Law 50/2002) and covered by the tax regime for patronage of Law 49/2002. Its registered office is at Carrer de Sant Fructuós 12-14, 08004 Barcelona. Tax ID (CIF): G16978645.
Mission
The Foundation’s statutory purpose is to preserve and disseminate the legacy of Enrique Escudé-Cofiner as cultural heritage; to make his life and work known; to rescue from oblivion Spanish composers of his generation; to encourage innovation and the crossing of musical styles that defined his own career; and to support young musicians.
In practice this means three lines of work, formulated by the Foundation itself:
- Research. Locating, assessing and studying unpublished or forgotten scores — starting with Cofiner’s own manuscripts, such as the Estampas gitanas — and preparing them for publication.
- Reinterpretation. Offering those works to contemporary musicians so that they can bring them into the present: a classical pianist, a guitar duo, a flamenco pianist, a group of young singers. Each recording is a new reading, not a museum piece.
- Innovation and education. Supporting emerging performers — through recording prizes, published arrangements and materials for conservatoires — and taking the music into classrooms.
What we have done so far
Since the first recording in 2019 the Foundation has produced four albums (Embrujo, Somorrostro, No se lo digas a nadie and Suite Flamenca), published the piano and guitar scores with Boileau and JSM Editions, brought the Gypsy Concert back to the stage at L’Auditori de Barcelona and the Teatro Real, created the Premio Cofiner at the José Luis Lopategui Guitar Competition, and seen its work recognised with the Melómano de Oro (2023) and two Spanish Music Academy Awards (2026). Board of Trustees
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees (Patronato) of five members, all of whom serve without remuneration, as Spanish law requires:

Transparency
The Foundation has no paid staff and no premises open to the public; practically everything it receives is spent on making music that would otherwise not be heard. Its governance rules, annual accounts and activity report are published in the transparency section of the Spanish site. Annual accounts are approved by the Board and filed with the Foundations Registry of Catalonia.

The Foundation works with the SGAE and its Documentation and Archive Centre (CEDOA), which holds the composer’s personal archive; with the publishers Boileau and JSM Editions; with the Taller de Músics and the ESMUC (Catalonia College of Music), co-producers of the 2023 Gypsy Concert revival; and with the performers who have made each recording possible.
