On 27 May 2026, at the ceremony held at the Palacio Municipal of IFEMA (Madrid), Diego Amador’s Suite Flamenca received the awards for Best Instrumental Album and Best Arrangement at the III Spanish Music Academy Awards. It is the most important recognition yet for a recording devoted entirely to the work of Enrique Escudé-Cofiner, and the Foundation’s second major award after the 2023 Melómano de Oro for Somorrostro.

The Best Arrangement award singles out precisely what the Foundation has pursued from the start: that Cofiner’s classical piano writing be reinterpreted from other languages — here, flamenco — without losing the original score. Read the full story.

Throughout 2025 María Camahort has continued to extend the collective album Songs for solo guitar, begun in 2023: guitar arrangements of Cofiner’s best-known songs, recorded at the JSM studios in Castellón by different performers. Already released: Una flor en el camino, Tengo miedo de ti and Mari Carmen (Camahort), María Soledad (Ekaterina Zaytseva), No se lo digas a nadie and Pasión tango (Anders Clemens Øien) and No te molestes más (Mercedes Barroso). In the summer of 2026 Elena Ortega and Jonathan Ross Parkin also recorded for the album.

The scores are published by JSM Records and each recording is released on the Foundation’s YouTube channel and on the digital platforms. The project is the most direct route for Cofiner’s music into the conservatoires: two- or three-minute songs, on an instrument studied by thousands of young people.

On 25 March 2025 the album Suite Flamenca was presented at the Sala Frederic Mompou of the SGAE in Barcelona. In it Diego Amador — National Music Prize — reinterprets five works by Escudé-Cofiner at the piano: Rondó Gitano, Embrujo, Imágenes de España, Sierra Morena and Nocturno. Amador recorded, performed and mastered the album on his own.

The event featured musicologist Irene Valle de Lope, who catalogued the Cofiner archive at the CEDOA, visual artist Iván Forcadell, author of the cover, and the Foundation’s president, María Isabel Escudé-Cofiner. Amador closed the presentation singing and accompanying himself at the piano. The album is dedicated to his brother, the guitarist Rafael Amador, and is available on CD and on digital platforms.

In November 2024 the Foundation partnered with the XIII José Luis Lopategui Guitar Competition, held in the Eduard Toldrà auditorium of the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory of Music. In category B (ages 16 to 18) the set piece for all competitors was No te molestes más, by Enrique Cofiner, in María Camahort’s guitar arrangement published by JSM Editions courtesy of the Foundation.

The Premio Cofiner, offered by the Foundation with JSM Guitar Records, consisted of a professional recording and production session at the studio in Castellón. It was won by the 17-year-old Seville guitarist Mercedes Barroso, whose recording of No te molestes más is now on YouTube and Spotify. In this way the Foundation serves two of its purposes at once: bringing Cofiner’s music into the repertoire of young performers and supporting emerging musicians at the start of their careers.

On 30 January 2024 the Zapateado, fourth movement of the Gypsy Concert that Enrique Escudé-Cofiner composed with Sabicas, was heard at the Teatro Real in Madrid within the Spanish Gala organised by the Fundación Excelentia. It was performed by the Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia and guitarist Alejandro Hurtado, the same soloist as at the revival at L’Auditori de Barcelona three months earlier.

It is the first time a work by Cofiner has been programmed at the Teatro Real, and it confirms the vitality of a concerto for flamenco guitar and orchestra that waited almost twenty years for its premiere: composed in 1976, it was first heard at the 1993 Córdoba Guitar Festival with Rafael Riqueni and the Córdoba Orchestra under Leo Brouwer. The score is published by Boileau.

The concert took place on 29 October in the Oriol Martorell hall of L’Auditori de Barcelona.

María Camahort is arranging Enrique Cofiner’s songs for solo guitar. The first three — Mari Carmen, Tengo miedo de ti and Una flor en el camino, performed by Camahort herself — were recorded at JSM Records in May 2023 and will reach the platforms in the autumn.

On 24 January Somorrostro: el mar baila por la playa is presented in the Manuel de Falla hall of the SGAE in Madrid.

On 7 February it is presented in the Mompou hall of the SGAE in Barcelona.

A documentary about Cofiner, who travelled half the world with his orchestra Cofiner y sus chicos. The film sets out to recover his memory and his music, and to follow the creative work of musicians such as Carles Marigó, María Camahort and Anders Clemens Øien, who are bringing his work to today’s audiences. A journey into the composer’s past, present and future.

On 30 June 2023 Douglas Riva performed Embrujo, the second movement of Estampas gitanas, at The Hispanic Society Museum & Library in New York. To mark the centenary of Joaquín Sorolla’s death, the museum organised a series of concerts entitled Joaquín Sorolla and his vision of Spain. The programme included works by Albéniz, Julián Bautista, Enrique Granados, Joaquín Turina and Pau Casals, together with the New York premiere of Embrujo by Enrique Escudé-Cofiner.

María and Anders performed Somorrostro, el mar baila por la playa at the Palau de Vivel as part of the Estanislao Marco Guitar Festival 2023 in La Vall d’Uixó.

The performance took place on 21 April, by María Camahort and Anders Clemens Øien.

On 3 November 2022 María Camahort and Anders Clemens Øien performed the Estampas gitanas for guitar duo at Milton Court in London.

In October Editorial Boileau publishes the Estampas gitanas and the works contained on the CD Somorrostro: el mar baila por la playa, arranged for guitar duo.

In September María Camahort and Anders Clemens Øien perform the Rondó Gitano (first movement of the suite Estampas gitanas) on the breakwater facing the Somorrostro beach.

August 2022: at Rockaway Studios in Castellón, JSM Records records the CD that gathers the Estampas gitanas and other classical works by Cofiner, arranged by María Camahort for guitar duo and performed by her and the guitarist Anders Clemens Øien.

In June 2022, at the IV Congress of Flamencology and Flamenco Pedagogy held in Barcelona and sponsored by the Taller de Músics, the ESMUC (Catalonia College of Music) and the Complutense University, Irene Valle de Lope — musicologist, master’s in Music Analysis and Theory from the University of Calabria and teacher at the Bellaterra Conservatory — presented the paper Enrique Cofiner: flamenco between revues, jazz, sardanas and songs.

Irene Valle de Lope (musicologist, master’s in music analysis and theory) analysed the works for the Boileau edition and catalogued and described the Cofiner personal archive at the SGAE’s CEDOA. She also built a database of all his works.

The Fundación Enrique Cofiner is constituted on 15 July 2021.

Editorial Boileau took an interest in the work and in December 2020 published the solo-piano scores (the symphonic works remain unpublished) in the same collection as the works of Albéniz, Granados and Alicia de Larrocha, among others.

The CD contains an improvisation by Marigó and two pieces in his own arrangements, Poncho and Pasión tango. The Estampas gitanas and the two intermezzos were unpublished: Marigó worked from the manuscripts.
