On 12 October 2026 Alcanar pays tribute to Enrique Escudé-Cofiner (Barcelona, 1909–1996) with the concert “Un vespre de Cofiner” (“An evening of Cofiner”): a two-part evening bringing together the performers who have returned his music to the stage and the composer’s family.
Cofiner’s bond with Alcanar was deeply personal. In October 1939, just released from the concentration camp in Girona, he attended the town’s Remei festivities at the invitation of a pupil’s father and there met Isabel Fuentes, who would become his wife. He set that bond to music: he composed the hymn to the Mare de Déu del Remei and a march entitled, precisely, Alcanar.
The programme
Part one. Guitarists Maria Camahort and Anders Clemens Øien present Somorrostro, el mar baila por la playa, the project in which Camahort transfers some of Cofiner’s most representative piano works — the Estampas gitanas among them — to the guitar duo, keeping their character, rhythmic drive, colours and flamenco resonances. The album won the Melómano de Oro in 2023.
Part two. Pianist and composer Carles Marigó, who led the recovery, revision and first recording of Cofiner’s piano music (Embrujo, 2019), turns to the composer’s other great facet: song. With the voice of Dasha Medvedeva, those melodies take on a new, contemporary and personal form, connected to the popular, free and eclectic spirit that runs through all of Cofiner’s music.
The evening also features Isabel Rojo Escudé-Cofiner, the composer’s granddaughter, who sings some of his songs from an especially intimate place: memory, family transmission and remembrance.
